When to kill a facebook page?

Hello everyone :)

Last week I talked about Life's Little Treasures use of Facebook and forums. This week I would like to focus on the 'Walk for Prems' fund-raising event held on the 6th of November 2011.

I immediately identified as issue with the Facebook page for the 'Walk for Prems' event. When i searched for 'Walk for Prems' in the search bar, last years page was brought up before this years event. And to make things worse...participants are beginning to write on last years page thinking that it's the current one.

2010 - Facebook page

2011 - Facebook page

It is quite hard for participants to distinguish especially when they are using the same logo as last year.

The marketing is now facing the dilemma of how to transfer participants from the previous page to the new page without losing any traffic? Should they close the page ASAP? or should they allow people to transfer?

Any ideas everyone on how Life's Little Treasures can do this?

Thanks!!

  1. I would say send everyone a message. Do it a few times and hopefully the majority will have moved. This could show how bad I am with FB pages (having never created one myself) but couldn't you just update the 2010 page and make it look new, therefore retaining all the members and not create this confusion?

  2. Hello Ross :)
    Thanks for your advice.
I think they've done that but followers are still a little confused and Life's Little Treasures is really worried that they'll love the traffic and also the momentum if they closed the old Facebook page :)
sigh they have so many issues hehe i really hope they'll learn how to use social media correctly because this will really benefit them~

  3. ya! it took me a looong time to get most ppl to transfer from one group page to another (had to change the name to decrease confusion between a 'person' and a 'group' with the same name).... in the end I just left a msg on the old site to tell ppl to go the new site. (and not update the old one anymore..)

  4. Hello Anonymous (Iola jie jie) hehe
Thanks for the comment! I know it's so hard to transfer people from one account to another sigh but i guess it's one of those things it's really hard to keep traffic when you do that ~
