Has Facebook failed this time?

Hello everyone,
Just a quick blog post about the recent changes to Facebook's newsfeed and the layout.

For those who haven't noticed or don't really know the difference...Facebook has basically changed the layout and how they show 'newsfeeds' which include people's status updates, photo uploads and check-ins.

Facebook has tried to make the changes easier by explaining it in the help section and at the top of users 'newsfeed'...personally i think it's still quite confusing and pointless really...

I feel as if Facebook is trying to take elements from Google+ and Twitter and incorporate it into Facebook... but has failed miserably throughout the past two days i have been seeing the following status updates:

What does everyone else think? Do you think Facebook has failed this time in changing their layout and newsfeed?

Would love to hear from everyone :)

  1. Very topical, Daisy. But wait, there's more!

According to the rumours online at the moment, apparently at AEST 3:00am tomorrow (Friday) morning, there will be another HUGE update to Facebook, the biggest since FB was first launched. Stay tuned!

  2. Hello Wags :)

More change?!? I think we've already had enough change!!! I really don't like the Facebook layout changes hahaha they never really give users enough notice and do it automatically!!

I also think Facebook should give users the option of using the 'old' layout!

  3. Hey Daiz
Great work! Very much on topic.
I am not used to it yet, I won't say I hate it yet but the changes they make every so often are sometimes annoying. But you do get used to it. My thoughts are its a response to a threat from G+, but haven't looked at it from the Twitter perspective and you are right, it certainly has that element.
It would be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks/months.

  4. I have no problem with Facebook updating .... however they are really putting users offside by consistently doing so.... I know how many of my friends changed their status' to something to do with facebook and how annoying it is everytime they log on SOMETHING IS DIFFERENT!!!

....one very wise person also made the comment that the new facebook makes it easier to stalk people - and in not so many words I would totally agree.... are the facebook upgrades becoming too invasive for users??

on another note - the online community seems to thing facebook are dominating.... bubye google plus :) - i posted this on yammer today, but seems totally relevant here as well:

  5. Haven't been used to it just yet. But I don't really like the new layout at all, seems like a lot going on in the Home page. = = Yes, i think FB is incorporating a lot of things (G+ + Twitter) like you mentioned, due to the introduction of G+. But...i guess, all these changes will not fail FB. Users will just take some time to get use to it...

  6. I have to say I'm a bit over the changes especially when they interfere with actually using the platform. I'm glad the invite to go through the 'privacy tour' has stopped popping up but now it’s these blue triangles and other weird things that get in the way. Facebook has to keep updating to try and stay ahead of the game. However, it seems that social media is one of those areas where the users seek innovation which may not be satisfied by being able to hear what music your friends are listening to or whatever - innovation for the hard core SM users may mean adapting to a whole new platform....like google +...maybe?

  8. Constant innovation - it's the only way FB can remain relevant. Look what happens when you don't change - MySpace!

  9. I'm kinda liking the, what now seems, constant changes to my facebook feed. Although it seems more visually friendly on the laptop than on the iphone app
