For a change today, I don't want to look at Life's Little Treasures, instead I found another topic quite interesting - should Facebook be banned at work?
I started thinking about this topic because I was going to open a LinkedIn account and was doing some research and that's when i came across this YouTube video
According to a recent article published in the UK "Sharp rise in Facebook and Twitter blocking at work" 32 percent of British companies ban social networking websites at work. However, it is ironic that 45% of companies are now using social networking websites to screen job applicants.
It gets even more controversial when employees especially marketers are required to use social media as a business tool. Then why is Facebook/Twitter and that like be banned at work?
Do you agree that Facebook should be banned at work?
don't ban the 'book'! Can be a time waster, but so can the telephone and email if abused
ReplyDeleteI agree with Hubba. It all comes with being responsible and knowing your limits. Thats where management comes in!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Facebook should be banned at work. If workers only use for a while at work, it has no harm.
ReplyDeleteIt's a tool to connect with customers. Banning it says a lot about the priorities of the managers of the business.
ReplyDeleteSure, "reasonable use" guidelines need to be developed and communicated to all personnel, to ensure it's not abused, but banning is the worst thing to do.
Agree, shouldn't be banned, but then it shouldn't be abused either. I think the difficulty at this stage is that there are still too many people who abuse it, and still too many companies that still don't quite know what to do with it, so rather than allowing, the easier option is to block it.

Facebook was banned at work this week for the first time and the outrage is somewhat amusing!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I feel it was the right move here. It was frustating to see our front line staff sitting on FB - not a good look in a "prestige" dealership!
And besides, surely the majority of us can access it on our smartphones??
Agree with the above comments guys, especially about how FB can be used to connect with customers (@Wags). If it's being abused at work (some people I see at work have it on constantly in the background, and I don't think they're targeting customers), perhaps it should be limited to Marketing Depts only?
ReplyDeletehello everyone :)
ReplyDeletethank you for all the comments ~
I personally don't think Facebook should be banned at work, however, guidelines must be in place and to develop a culture at work where people don't abuse this right.
I remember when I'm at work I don't use facebook because I don't want my manager nor do I want the IT department calling me hahha
My sister works for HSBC in Hong Kong and they've banned facebook on their computers....I really think this is a little too extreme!!
Test comment. Just checking if it's working OK?
ReplyDeleteI don't think FB should be banned at work as long as employees can finish all the jobs and use it in appropriate time. It's one way of relaxing and companies should take it in consideration since it mostly affects the performance and employees esp the state of mind :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Wags :) Think my friends are able to comment now hehe ~
ReplyDeleteSasima!!! How are you? Thanks for the comment!!! Yes i totally agree that facebook is a way for employees to relax and i guess at the end of the day we can always access it on our phones even if we don't access it on the computer hehe ~
